All the fun of the fair

On Saturday 8 June the children, parents, friends and staff of Newcastle-under-Lyme Junior School enjoyed a beautiful sunny day of fun and games at their summer fair . There was a multitude of activities going on from go karting to fancy dress; pottery painting to climbing; tombolas to soak the teacher; BBQs to plants, and a wealth of fantastic stalls and exhibits. The exact total raised from the day is yet to be revealed but a huge thank you from the staff at the School to all of the Newcastle-under-Lyme Junior School Parents' Association who so ably put together such a successful and enjoyable event.

Children love to build things...

Construction toys enable children to develop their fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination. It encourages them to think about following a plan, fitting things together and sometimes making changes to a design to make it better. Children enjoy these activities by themselves or with friends which develops social interaction and communication skills.

Developing skills

There are many ways that the children in the Nursery can develop their drawing and writing skills through a selection of  daily activities. Some activities are guided by an adult but many are freely available.

Year 5 go back in time

Back in Time

Children in Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Blists Hill Victorian village in Ironbridge.  Their immersion in all things nineteenth century included a lengthy session in a Victorian schoolroom with a suitably stern teacher who insisted on perfect posture for nearly ninety minutes.  Wearing authentic costumes the children recited times tables, sang All Things Bright and Beautiful and wrote in italicised lettering on slates – no left-handers allowed!  A stroll around the Victorian village encompassed a trip to a doctor’s surgery, a visit to the blacksmith’s and a shopping expedition: against all the odds, the sweet shop was a firm favourite…  And what better way to round off the day than a rousing sing-song in the local public house!

Nursery Treasure

The Nursery children had a Fun Day for which they came dressed as Pirates and Princesses. They had fun in the rowing boat; sailing across the choppy seas and landing on a desert island. They created a treasure map and hunted for hidden treasure. They also had to follow a trail of clues which led them through the school to a hidden cache of goodies beneath Mrs Smith`s desk!

Special delivery

The Nursery children enjoyed their visit to the Post Office in the town centre. They had their parcels weighed, paid the postage and took very good care of the receipts that they were given.

Fruit "cakes" in the Nursery

We are delighted that our Orme Nursery parents support our healthy eating policy.  The children really enjoyed these spectacular fresh fruit creations brought in to share as part of recent birthday celebrations.
